The Hambletts theatre production company have asked us to spread the word about a lovely and historic event happening at Birmingham Town Hall on 15th December, starring Moseley-born and educated, BAFTA-nominated actor Anton Lesser.
They would like to extend a warm invite to members of the Moseleians Association to come along, as Anton returns to perform in the building he last set foot in for Moseley Grammar’s prize giving when he was a boy!
The show is a candlelit one-man performance of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” with live music from Orchestra of the Swan.
The Birmingham Town Hall was the very place Dickens first read ‘A Christmas Carol’ in public.
Anton is delighted to return to his home city to bring this timeless tale back to the exact room in which it was first heard, 171 years later. On the day of the performance, he will unveil a blue plaque to commemorate Dickens’ historic first reading of the story in this spot.
This unique show combines Dickens’ words with live music, performed by Midlands-based Orchestra of the Swan.
The onstage musicians weave around the action, playing music old and new, heightening the suspense of this immortal Christmas story.
In an astonishing virtuoso performance, Anton brings Dickens’ teeming cast of characters to dazzling life.
